Initiatives
In addition to operations, the Ohio UAS Center manages initiatives and research for the advancement of unmanned aircraft and advanced aviation technologies. The FlyOhio initiative focuses on enabling the lower altitude airspace with SkyVision and Unmanned Aircraft Traffic Management (UTM) research. Ohio is investing in new technology that will facilitate alternative transportation methods, improve transportation reliability, increase system resiliency, and improve highway capacity within urban and rural environments. Other research projects managed by the Ohio UAS Center are focused on finding appropriate use for unmanned aircraft within public operations.

Unmanned Traffic Management Research Project
The UAS Center is partnering with The Ohio State University and others on a three-year research project along the 33 Smart Mobility Corridor to develop a different low-altitude air traffic management system using passive radar.

NASA National Campaign
The Ohio Department of Transportation and a collaboration of public, private and academic institutions, has been selected to participate in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)’s Advanced Air Mobility National Campaign in support of AAM Community Integration.

Advanced Air Mobility Framework
Ohio is releasing the nation’s first advanced air mobility (AAM) framework, developed by the Ohio Department of Transportation, through DriveOhio and the Ohio Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Center.
